"Here are some lessons I've learned in the last 80 years. I hope to continue to practice them in the next 80...

9. On philanthropy my approach is to try to relieve pain rather than spread joy. Music, theatre and art museums have many affluent supporters, give the best parties and can add to your social luster in a community. They don’t need you. Social service, hospitals and educational institutions can make the world a better place and help the disadvantaged make their way toward the American dream.

In yoga we call philanthropy Seva which in Sanskrit means selfless service. Trying to up my Seva I recently became involved with a program, Yoga Reaches Out, which helps raise money for children in need. This year our fundraising efforts will go towards Boston Children's Hospital.

On Sunday, May 1, 2016, CNY is participating in the Yoga Reaches Out New England Yogathon at Empower Field House at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. Why don't you join our team? The more people the merrier and the better for Yoga Reaches Out. We need people like you on our team! The money we raise will go to the Wellness Program at Boston Children's Hospital and toward the continued growth and mission of Yoga Reaches Out. We need your support so please do anything you can - join my team, register as an individual or make a donation on our behalf. Please visit www.yogareachesout.org to learn more. Join me in our movement today by joining our team and making a difference in the lives of many children. Thank you so much for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you at the Yoga Reaches Out New England Yogathon!
